This is basically a card game based on the World Wide Web and Webpages. The goal is to have the highest rating. This is accomplished through 'Critic' cards. As your website grows, so will the number of critics who will favor your site. -------------------Decks------------------- All decks must be 60 cards with no more than 4 of any named card. EX: 2 (Neutral) Splash Page and 2 (Alan's Site) Splash Page. If the names of the card are the same, you may only have 4 of it in your deck regardless of type. Your "Base site" does not count as one of your 60. You may also have more than one base site card but all the extras count as part of your deck and go in your deck. Also, please note that some character cards may have similar names. EX: Alan-Site Master and Alan-Nonprocrastonator. These two cards are totally different and you may have up to 4 of each of them in your deck. -------------------Keep in play (characters)------------------- Some character cards say "Keep this card in play after use." This means that, after you use it, put the card somewhere on the playfield and the effects last until that card is removed through another card (that says "remove a card 'kept in play'" on it). If a character card does not say "keep this card in play," discard it after use. Remember, a "kept in play" card's effects end after it is removed from the playfield. -------------------Keep in play (other)------------------- All critic and component cards are kept in play until removed by another card. The removal card must specifically state "discard a component card" or "discard a critic card." Remember, cards that just remove a card "kept in play" may not be used to remove critic or component cards. -------------------Limit one per deck------------------- Some cards will say "Limit one copy per deck" or "Limit one per deck." This means you may only have one copy of that card per deck. -------------------Cannot be removed from play------------------- Some cards will say "This card cannot be removed from play by any means" on it. This means that, even if you play cards to remove it, this card will stay in play until the end of the game. -------------------Winning------------------- You win when either your opponent's site has no components on it or you get 100 points through critics. You will also win if your opponent has no cards in his deck at the beginning of his turn. -------------------Expansions------------------- There is currently one expansion as well as promo cards in the Website TCG. Cards from the base set will not have any special markings but the APSN set will have a small "APSN" logo on the lower right. Promo cards will have a "promo" logo on the lower right. -------------------Setup------------------- To start, find 1 of your "Base Site" cards and place it on the table. This represents your website. You will be adding components to it to increase your total IP (Ingenuity Points) GP (Graphical Points) and CP (Complexity Points) ratings. Then, pick the top 5 cards off of your deck. Attach all Component Cards from those 5 to your Base Site. Return the other cards to your deck. If you don't get any components in your 5 card draw, shuffle the cards back into the deck and draw again. Remember, the types of the component and base site must match. After your site has at least 1 component on it, draw your starting hand of 7 cards. Flip a coin to see who plays first. -------------------Cards------------------- There are basically 4 types of cards in the Website TCG. Base Site - These are the base for your website. These will have "Base Card" on the card on the top and in the middle. Component Cards will be added to this card. Component Cards - These are the different parts of the site. Each site may only have 1 of any specific named component on it at a time. This means you can have either the neutral Splash Page card or the specific Splash Page card but not both at the same time. The number of IP, GP, and CP that that card provides is listed in the upper left of each card for easy reference. Some components will also require a certain amount of CP, GP, and IP to be played. Your CP, GP, and IP totals must meet or exceed those numbers to play that component. Other components may require a certain card to already be in play. This card must be on one of your sites for you to be able to play that component. Character Cards - These cards effect gameplay in different ways. Some character cards will say OR on them (in caps). This means you can choose what the card does from the choices on the card. DO NOT use both effects from the same card. Critic Cards - These are the scoring cards that you will need to win. Each critic can be won over by having the amount of GP, CP, and IP listed on each critic card. When you win a critic over, add its points to your total. First one to 100 points wins the game. Unless a card specifically says so, a critic cannot lose favor of your site even if your components no longer meet their requirements. -------------------Deck Searches------------------- Some cards specifically specify you to do so but many do not. After searching your deck or discard pile for ANY card, shuffle your deck/discard pile. This is required with every deck search. -------------------Controlling 2 sites------------------- You can control 2 or more base sites at once. However, a critic card will only look at ONE of the sites. This means that even if you have one site with 5GP 5IP and 5CP on it and another with 10GP 10IP and 10CP, a critic requiring 15GP, 15IP, and 15CP will not win favor of your site as neither of them can meet the requirements. For this reason, you will usually find yourself with just one site. Future expansions may give players with multiple sites an advantage though ;) -------------------Types------------------- There are currently 3 different "types" in the Website TCG. Alan's Site, APSN and Neutral. Alan's site components are only compatible with the Alan's site base card or the Neutral base card. APSN site components are also only compatible with the APSN base card or the Neutral base card, but Neutral components may be played with any type. -------------------Alan's Site's "Site Cards"------------------- From Alan's Site @http://come.to/alansite, you can also download "Site Cards". These are collectable cards of different parts of Alan's site. If you want to use these in the Website TCG, you can. Print THE FRONTS ONLY of the cards you want to use. Site cards are neutral type and privide 1IP, 1GP, and 1CP. FIRST EDITION site cards, however, which are available from the contest on Alan's site for password holders, provide 10GP, 10CP, and 10IP. They are still neutral type. All site cards count as components so you can do anything with them you would with a normal component. -------------------Gameplay------------------- Gameplay is very straightforward here. 1) Draw a card. Once per turn. 2) Play another base site from your hand if you wish. Once per turn. 3) Play any components from your hand onto your base site. The types must match. As many times as you want. 4) Play any character cards. As many times as you want. 5) Play any critic cards. Your total IP, GP, and CP must meet that critic's requirements. As many times as you want. 6) End your turn Then your opponent takes his turn. Keep playing until your opponent has no components attached to any of his/her base sites, your opponent has no cards in his/her deck, or you have 100 points. Then you win! -------------------FAQ------------------- Q: Can I play a "Natasha-The Defender" card on a "Natasha-The Defender" card? A: Yes. This doubly protects the card and works well with cards you can only have one copy of per deck. In fact, you can play all 4 of your "Natasha" cards on each other. Q: Does "Alan-The Programmer" protect your Character cards from effects? A: No. "Alan-The Programmer" is designed as a protection card for your components to prevent them from being removed. Q: For "Kathleen-The Helper," does the 10 IP, GP, and/or CP mean total? I mean, can I be 10 IP away from a critic as well as 10 GP away? A: Yes. You can be 10 IP, 10 GP, AND 10 CP away and this card will meet all of them. Q: Can I play a "Natasha-The Defender" card on one of my opponent's cards? A; Yes, just remember that it's your card and not his/hers. Q: On "Shannon-Truth or Dare Master," it says play Truth or Dare with your partner. What is Truth or Dare? A: If you don't know, just use it's other ability, "draw one card" instead. Q: If I play "Jack-The Assistant," do I get to shuffle it back into my deck too? A: No. The card says to discard it after you shuffle your discard pile into your deck. This will leave only the "Jack-The Assistant" card in your discard pile. -------------------Credits------------------- Thanks to all my friends whose sites are or will be pictured in this TCG.
